Women Internet Governance Forum 2024: Advocating for a Gender-Sensitive Digital Future
On October 15, 2024, the sixth edition of the Women Internet Governance Forum (WIGF) convened virtually, organized by the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) in collaboration with the Nigeria Internet Governance Forum (NIFG). This year’s forum, themed “Promoting a Gender-Sensitive Internet: Women Inclusivity in the Digital Transformation,” sought to address the persistent digital gender gap and elevate women’s voices in the technology landscape.
The keynote address was delivered by Comrade Ene Obi, former Country Director of Action Aid Nigeria, who emphasized the urgent need for policies that foster inclusivity and combat the barriers women face in the digital sphere. Esteemed speakers, including Madam Mary Uduma, Chair of the West Africa IGF, and experts in technology and policy, facilitated discussions on critical topics such as online gender-based violence and the prospects for inclusivity in the digital economy.
