Why We Are Leading Conflict Recovery in North West, Central – Africpeace

AREWA AGENDA – The African Initiative for Peace Building, Advocacy and Advancement, Africpeace, has said that it is leading peace and reconciliation efforts in parts of the North West and North Central, due to their population and diversity.
The Program officer of the initiative, Mrs Comfort Zawaya stated this during a two day workshop held in Kano themed: Beyond the Crisis of Indigenship and Citizenship, Building and Strengthening Structure Towards Reconciliation and Conflict Recovery in the Northern part of Nigeria.
According to Zawaya, the general objectives the workshop is to build and strengthen community level structures of reconciliation and conflict recovery in Kano , Kaduna and Plateau state.

“Due to the level of population and the diversity in these states which which have witnessed one form of violence or the other, especially religious conflict, Africpeace decided to organize this program for grassroot community leaders from various angle in order to impact the technique and knowledge of implementing new ways of resolving conflict within their respective communties.” She said.
Mrs. Zawaya assured that, Africpeace is leaving no one behind interms of promoting, advocating and mentoring the cause of peace in our society.
“We engage stakeholders, community leaders, we also learn ,dig out where the problems lays and find a solution that will make the communities shun conflict and also enable peace to rain in the country.”
While speaking, a lecturer with the Department of Political Science, Bayero University Kano, charged community leaders in attendance to learn from the workshop and apply their knowledge when conducting peace building within the communities they represent.
Commending the effort of the organizers, a participant Comrade Garba Suleiman Marafa from Badawa community in kano said the workshop has inspired him to continue championing the cause of peace especially in his area of residence which he described as a mini Nigeria due to its diversity.
In attendance at the workshop were grassroots community leaders from across the state, media personnel and various interest groups.
