We Need More Human Right Offices in Kano – Shehu Abdullahi
AREWA AGENDA – The Kano State Coordinator, National Human Right Commission Alh. Shehu Abdullahi called the federal government to establish more office branches in Kano state due to the population density of the environment.
Abdullahi made this known while receiving the Coalition of Advocators headed by Connected Development in support with Canadian High Commission on a project of Galvanising Mass Action Against Gender based violence in Kano (GMAAK) at the Human Rights zonal office in Kano state today.
Abdullahi said, the National Human Right Commission has contributed immensely in tackling all sorts of Gender Based Violence in the country particularly in most rural areas In Kano especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
He added that, the output of the result of Gender Based Violence has reduced and serve as a huge development to the commision campaired to the past years record before the imposement of lockdown in the State.

However, we have been alarmed that the Kano State House of Assembly has passed the first reading of the Child Right Act Bill which we hopefully want to see the effective result in few weeks ahead. Abdullahi added
The team leader of the GMAAK project who is also the Founder of Bridge Connect, Alh Sani Muhammad revealed that the GMAAK project focus on ending Gender Based Violence in the State in collaboration with key stakeholders that are involved to see the great input.
He added that, during the advocacy visit to the Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice Barr. M.A Lawal has assured that his office will always support and collaborate with Non Governmental Organization that has the zeal to tackle all means of Sexual Gender Based Violence in the State and confirmed that the provision of Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act (VAPP) and increasment sentence of perpetrators from 14 years to life inprisonment for rape case will be pass in few month ahead.
