AREWA AGENDA: The Corona Virus pandemic has impacted almost every aspect of daily life but presents an added burden on families with young children. Closures of schools and child care centers have put a strain on caregivers to meet all of the developmental needs of children at home.

These, in combination with economic instability and social isolation, is a recipe for toxic stress, which can have long-term negative effects on brain development and health.

Just
Even before the COVID-19, 8 out of 10 children in low-income countries did not have access to pre-primary education. We are missing a critical window of opportunity to build the foundational skills that set young learners on a path to success in school and beyond.

Recently the Center for Universal Education (CUE) hosted a virtual roundtable discussion that examined the current state of pre-primary education around the world—who has access, how it is funded, and what “quality” means—and what is needed to prioritize and accelerate progress toward providing quality universal pre-primary education for all.

Kano is not on exception looking out how the state government has come up with series of programs like the free and compulsory education for all children in the state regardless of background meant to direct the state educational system into a path of sustainability, Teachers Training and massive recruitment of more number of them into Teaching profession, perhaps with the attainment of the states education budget a United Nations global bench mark of sustainability one would say no one is left behind in terms of quality and affordable education as the sector is financially strong to bring physical not written changes for both schools in Urban and Rural Parts of Kano. Millions Upon Millions from the government pocket yet no classrooms for the children, injection of surplus from concerned international organizations but our schools remain a breeding grounds for rats.

Recall that; 31st August, 2020, the Executive Governor of Kano State, His Excellency, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, disbursed the sum of N880,942,432.38 million in a groundbreaking ceremony for the renovation of primary schools in all the 44 local government areas of Kano State.

Each of the 44 local government area in the state was issued N20 million through the Community Promotion Committee, CPC to execute the renovation projects.

The question is where is this money as majority of the schools are still dilapedated without anything on ground? With all the huge spendings in education; the rate of school attendance was persistently low due to a lost strategy and a misplaced priorities from few individuals trusted by the Governor to drive this affairs. We will not keep mute and allow this ill habits ruin our education, those responsible will surely pay for it while awaiting reports on the state of our schools.

Enough is enough.
