TCI Plants Trees in Memory of Bill Gates Snr

AREWA AGENDA – The Challenge Initiative, TCI, has engaged in a tree planting excercise in honor of late Bill Gates Snr, father to Microsoft Co-founder, Bill Gates, who died at the age of 94.

TCI, an urban reproductive health program funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, said it embarked on the excercise in recognition of Gates Snr’s contribution towards the development of health care and in grooming his son Gates Jnr on the same path.

The excercise which took place at the Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board, Nai’bawa, Kumbotso L.G.A Kano was led by the Executive Secretary of the Board Dr.Tijjani Hussaini.

While briefing the Media, Dr. Hussaini expressed excitement towards the excellent iniative by TCI in honoring the late Gates Snr.

“Mr. Gates engagement, sacrifice and commitment towards health and other sectors are commendable and meritorious.” He said, thanking him for putting his son on the same track, which as a result, has touched millions of lives in the world.

While flagging of the planting excercise, Dr Hussaini called upon people and organizations to emulate and imbibe the kind gesture the Gates family stands for.

He assured of his commitment towards nurturing and monitoring the trees.

On his part, the Kano State Coordinator Of The Challenge Initiative(TCI) Musa Abdullahi Sufi, expressed gratitude to the Kano State Primary Health Care Board and all other persons who attended the excercise.

He said the TCI organized the program in order to immortalise the legacy of Bill Gates Snr and ensure his contributions are forever remembered.

He commended Gates commitment in service to humanity especially his contributions towards women and children health, maternal prevalance and Family Planning.

While assuring that the TCI will continue working hard towards ensuring a productive atmosphere on health in the State, he called on Government, philanthropist and Organizations to join hands in order to efficiently address health issue in the state and country at large.

He is the father of Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates. He was 94.

“We will miss him more than we can express right now,” Gates wrote in a tribute to his father on his website. “My dad’s wisdom, generosity, empathy, and humility had a huge influence on people around the world.”

Gates Sr. was born on Nov. 30, 1925, in Bremerton, Wash., and attended the University of Washington. After serving in World War II, he returned home and became a lawyer. He would later help his son develop the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where he served as co-chair.

“The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation would not be what it is today without my dad,” Gates wrote. “More than anyone else, he shaped the values of the foundation.”

In his tribute, Gates remembered his father’s “quiet influence” on every aspect of his life, saying that his father’s “unconditional” support was one of the reasons he felt comfortable leaving college to develop Microsoft with his business partner, Paul Allen. In Microsoft’s early days, Gates wrote he would often seek his father’s help with legal matters.

Gates also credited his father with influencing him in what he called his “most important roles — that of father and husband.
