AREWA AGENDA – Residents of Ibbi community in Taraba State have commended the Federal Government for it’s commitment in construction of the Ibbi bridge across River Benue in Taraba State.
The secretary of Joint Union of Water Transporters (JUWT) Mr. Akukele Asanya Akusco has said that the community is highly excited with the development.
He made this known during a media visit by Arewa Agenda to his home town Ibbi. He appreciated the FG for keeping their campaign promises. “As I am talking to you now people come in mass to jubilate with the arrival of construction equipment which consists of containers and heavy drilling machine”.
Sulaiman Aliyu Muhammed is a driver who spends many years using that road from sabongida in Taraba to kano on regular occasion, has further explained how helpfull the road could be when constructed.
He noted that, if the work was able to see the light of the day distances covered in five to six hours could be taken in less than one hour thirty minutes. “we spend four hours in a journey of one hour” he appealed to the FG to also reconstruct the minor culvert destroyed by erossion as individual had made local efforts to repair it themselves.
Dan’azumi Baba member with JUWT further expressed satisfaction with arrival of drilling equipment and commencement of the mega bridge that covers eight to ten kilometres.

He disassociated the Union from the lingering rumors on social media that they are gainst the project. “We are more happier than every one, because Donga bridge construction equipment was brought to us before we even staged a protest when they come to pack the equipment”.
The people of Southern Taraba, Adamawa and parts of Borno States have been yearning for the project for the past 40 years until now that the federal government is starting the project.
Alhaji Adamu, a one time chairman of Ibbi local government council, explained that the Bridge, when when constructed, will serve as a short route from states in the Northeast to Federal capital Territory.
The Federal executive council had approved N70 billion for the project last year.
Arewa Agenda reports that indication for commencement of work on the construction of the bridge emerged with the arrival of Engineers and Materials in August last year.
