Sustained Success: Dr. Habibat Onumoko’s Enduring Impacts on Kogi’s Economic Prosperity
Governance anywhere in the world is a continuous process, which is why tenure durations extend from one administration to the next, as it is unarguably impossible for an administration to solve all the challenges of a state or country in a single term.
Due to contact changes in policies of governments, what worked wonders yesterday might not apply to today’s challenges, as new issues arise daily. This is similar to the project work of final-year students: you study existing work, identify challenges, and develop ideas to address them in your own work. This doesn’t mean that previous efforts were unsuccessful. Unfortunately, some public office holders today lack this understanding, which is why people sometimes feel that previous administrations were better than the current one.
When you find someone who can identify the challenges of a previous administration and effectively address them, such a person deserves commendation, as it is rare in modern society.
The previous administration did excellently, with the only significant challenge being salary issues. However, our leader, Former Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello, assembled a team capable of addressing those challenges, which is why we now see the success of the “Consolidation” mantra.

Since the beginning of Governor Usman Ododo’s administration, civil servants have received their salaries not only on time but also when they least expect it—without any delay. The significant increase in local government workers’ salaries has greatly reduced complaints about salary issues in the state. The state government pays salaries immediately upon receiving FAAC allocations, with workers receiving their pay between the 21st and 25th of every month. In fact, Kogi State workers receive their salaries before federal government workers.
This achievement is the result of having a selfless and passionate Accountant General who identified the challenges of the past administration and addressed them with sincerity. I can confidently say that the appointment of Dr. Hon. Hajia Habibat Onumoko as the Accountant General of the state is a perfect match.
The opposition parties have primarily focused on salaries in their attempts to criticize this administration, but this woman has effectively put them to shame, leaving them with nothing to use against the administration, both in the media and outside of it. She hasn’t limited herself to her office but has also been active in grassroots mobilization, encouraging people to support this administration and delivering the dividends of democracy. She has extended her influence beyond Kogi Central to the entire state.
Hon. Dr. Hajiya Habibat is truly a blessing to this administration.
