Silver Jubilee: YOSPIS calls Kano Govt to develop plan against devastating flooding

AREWA AGENDA – Youth Society for the Prevention of Infectious Diseases and Social Vices has called on the Kano State government to develop a strategic plan to mitigate the devastating flooding affecting the state yearly during the rainy season.

The Executive Director of the youth organisation, Zainab Nasir Ahmad made this call while unveiling the flex banner, t-shirts and face caps to be used for the activities to celebrate the creation of YOSPIS at 25.

Zainab urges the state government and gubernatorial candidates to design a framework that will look after the drainage system, dumping sides and proper provision of waste disposal to prevent future occurrences of flooding in the state.

She also called on the relevant authorities to invest more in youth through job creation, capacity building, empowerment, grants to micro, medium and small scale businesses and provide them with opportunities in leadership circles for the youths to contribute their skills in addressing their challenges in the state.

She said, “We as youth leaders respectfully call on the Kano state government and all the Kano Gubernatorial Candidates to prioritise on massive investment both in human and financial resources to address the devastating effect of flooding in Kano State and a way forward to prevent future occurrences.”

YOSPIS was founded in September 1997 by a group of young individuals who were then students at Bayero University, Kano. This September marks its 25th anniversary and several occasions are expected to hold.
