Shehu Sani Express Solidarity With #NoMoreBloodShed Convener in Kano Over Encounter With DSS

AREWA AGENDA – Former Senator Representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Shehu Sani, has expressed support for the Convener of the #NoMoreBloodShed in Kano, Zainab Nasir Ahmed, over her encounter with the Department of States Service (DSS).

In a post on his official Facebook Page, the Senator said Ms Zainab may have pulled out of the protest after much pressure and threats, she deserves commendation for her courage.

“She was driven by conscience but she is also human. When I was her age, I ended up in many DSS and police cells and prisons; I know what it takes to be there. Those of you who have never been arrested or thrown into cell or wear handcuffs like us,shouldn’t just easily judge or condemn her.Let’s encourage her.Our situation in the North is grievous, any voice or action in the cause of peace is appreciated,” the Senator concluded.

Recall that Ms Zainab has dissociated herself from the protest moments after coming out of custody of the Department of States Service, DSS.

Ms Zainab was earlier invited by the DSS for questioning over her involvement with protests organized across some northern states and the FCT to draw the attention of the government over escalating insecurity in the North, following the gruesome killing of over 42 travellers in a bus in Sokoto.

After about 2hrs in custody of the DSS, Ms Zainab was released after which she posted on her Facebook page that she is no longer going to participate in the protest.

“I want to let people know that from today I’m dissociating myself from the protest that started today, Im kindly advising my Kano people to start away from tomorrow’s priest. I’m aware of some issues and I’m worried about the safety of people and i don’t want anyone to be hurt due to such action, it could be very risk for people to protest tomorrow in Kano due to the information I heard about the plans to hijack and cause chaos for some political interest. I advice us to stay at home for our SAFETY. I was invited for a friendly discussion by the DSS It is not about me or you rather the interest of the state.
Peace,” she wrote, calling on other protesters to jilt the protest as well.

Yesterday, Youths stormed the streets of some Northern cities over the widespread killings in the region.

Although Nigeria is currently facing a high wave of insecurity, bandits and terrorists have stepped up attacks in the north despite efforts of the government to contain them.

The protesters, who are wielding placards, have organised the protests simultaneously in Kano, Bauchi, Zamfara, Sokoto States and Abuja.

Chanting songs of peace, the protesters called on President Muhammadu Buhari and governors to show more interest in tackling insecurity.

Following the protest, President Muhammadu Buhari deployed a high-level security team to the troubled Katsina and Sokoto states.

The President made the disclosure in a statement posted on his Facebook page.
