Shaping Kano State for the Betterment of Current, Future Generations Economically
By Abbati Bako PhD.
AREWA AGENDA – The current Governor of Kano State Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje seems to be on the right path as per understanding the current global order or globalism. No right thinking leader will isolate his people from joining the bandwagon of global development; especially the issues of cooperation between Government and private organizations at national, State and Local Government Councils.
One may need to know why and how the name of Nigeria is missing among the 30 global emerging economies; such nations as S/Arabia, Qatar, Macedonia, S/Korea, UAE, S/Africa, Malaysia, Thailand, Argentina,Turkey, Mexico, Indonesia and so on? How many countries around the world are not in the line of global economic interplay created by the global experts under the leadership of United Nations? The answer is simple. That is very few nations of the world are not in the bandwagon of global order or globalism. Therefore, Nigeria and Kano State will not separate themselves from the current global order because the world will not wait for any nation in terms of global development.
The policy of Kano State to enter into agreement with some organizations and banks for the sake of building economy for the current and future generations is an excellent observation that will benefit the future leadership and generations. The essence of privatization in all nations is to create strong private sectors that will employ a graduate of any level that will boost economy; economy is the live wire of any nation that will have peace and security as well as freedom of want. Hence, privatizing the properties of Government at any level is an excellent and classical policy that will move the nation economically for the benefit of the current and future generations in Kano State and the nation. The world is changing and our leaders must change otherwise, the world will not wait for Nigeria or Kano State. The fundamental issue is for the Government to move together with the world.
The rationale behind borrowing in capitalist market economy is to create competition among nations and individuals with a view to boost economic growth and economic interplay that can lead to security and freedom of want in a nation. In the past 120 years underground railroad was created in New York and since then other nations followed the same path for the fact that transportation system is a fundemental element in moving the global economy and the economy of all nations.

So, not only borrowing the sum of 300b Naira from China to build light railroad tracks in Kano City; this writing views Kano State should borrow trillions of Naira worth of agreement for the sake of building economy and economic development and interplay among the citizens. The USA’s current internal and external borrowing is worth $18trillion and the UK’s current borrowing is worth 3B Pound Sterling. So, borrowing is normal in capitalist market economic system so long as you will not cross 50% of your GDP. And again, all nations of the world are entitled to borrow money for the development of economy. As said above economy is the backbone of nations and for a nation to be secured it must have stable economy for the current and future generations.
When GSM service providers came into being in Nigeria in the early year 2000 the price of sim card was about 40,000 Naira. When competition among the service providers heated up; how much is the price of sim card today?
The essence of privatization again is for Government not to participate into business but to (only) allow people and organizations to compete in a nation and pay Government taxes pure and simple. And Government should do the work for which the people elected them, period! This means that the work of the citizens is to elect the Government they want and the work of the Government is to do what the citizens want.
WHAT MOST NIGERIANS FAILED TO UNDERSTAND———
No human nation is (now) not under the policy of global political, economic and social governance of United nations. All the global world orders and policies (health, education, security, economy, transportation, population, agriculture and so on) under the influence of UN’s agencies that determine the global political and economic policies.
The globalization policy means—global interconnections in terms of economy, communications, transport, knowledge, workforce, trade, FDI, or as observed by J S Odama and others (2004) “being present world wide at the global arena. these imply visibility, immediacy, or availability. Thus an issue, object, value(s), institutions, or practices is globalized either through commerce, production, consumption, politics and information technology it is visible or considered relevant in global centres.” (Globalization and the Third World Economy, Lagos, 2004). This means globalization or UNIVERSALITY or UNIVERSALIZATION of world activity.
