Senator Sulaiman Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila of Kano South Senatorial District has celebrated his 100 days in office with a unique and passionate style.
At least 500 women and youth benefitted from Senator Sumaila’s second batch of empowerment program as part of his 100 days in office celebration.
Senator Sumaila distributed 109 Motorcycles, about 300 Sewing machines and about 200 water pump machines to his constituents with a view to reducing poverty among them.
The items worth over N200m were distributed to the constituents selected from the 16 local governments in the senatorial district.
Speaking at the occasion, Senator Kawu Sumaila said the exercise was part of his efforts to bring more goodies to his constituents from the federal government.
“I secured the items from the Nigerian Border Commission to empower my constituents. The main functions of a legislature in the Nigerian parliament are three; lawmaking, representation and over sight.
“So, today, I am here to performing representation aspect of my function as a legislature. I personally influenced provision of these items to my constituents from the Nigerian Border Commission with a view to alleviating poverty among them.

“I am confident that these items will reduce the rates of unemployment and poverty among my constituents. The effort will reduce the level of crimes in the senatorial district because people will now have something doing, thereby reducing redundancy among them.
“This is my second outing after election. The first was when I unveiled a scholarship program for the 100 less privileged constituents,” he said.

It could be recalled that Senator Sumaila has offered N153m scholarship to 100 less privileged constituents to study nursing and other health related courses.
The beneficiaries which include 60 males and 40 females were selects from 171 wards across the 16 local government of his senatorial district.
The students are to undergo their studies in five selected private institutions of Aminu Dabo College of Nursing Science, Pyramid College of Nursing, Rawafiq International College, Dansharif College of Nursing and Iqra’a College of Nursing.
According to the package of the scholarship N141m is meant for the registration, accommodation and other fees, while the balance of N12m is the 10,000 monthly stipends per student for a year.
