Scores of Kwarans Benefit From om Lions Club Free Health Screening
In a bid to promote health awareness and early detection, the Lions Club International yesterday organized a free health screening on diabetes and hypertension for Kwarans.
This was a joint initiative of Ilorin Royal Lions Club, Ilorin Central Lions Club and Ilorin Metropolitan Lions Club.
The exercise marks the club’s November project and was targeted at awakening people’s consciousness on these killer diseases for possible precautions or timely treatment.
The programme, held at Ilorin Shopping Mall, witnessed people of different class trouping in to benefit from the Lions Club free health screening.
Speaking at the event, Lion Oluwakayode Ademola Jegede, the Regional Chairperson of Lions Club International which comprises the whole of Kwara and part of Oyo State.
Jegede said the club is all about service and what they are doing in this month of November is to sensitize people about diabetes and as well carry out test for people to know their status.
He said diabetes is one of the major diseases killing people and so, they came up with the screening as November’s service project for lives to be saved.
Also, second Vice President of Ilorin Royal Lions Club, said the club is all about service, giving back to community and they have come together in service to aid their communities and bring succour to people.

In their separate comments, the President of Ilorin Metropolitan Lions Club, Lion Adetutu Majiyagbe and Lion Bashirat Salaudeen, said in giving back to community, their members stand to gain a lot, because they are doing what God has sent them to do.
For her part, the Service Chairperson for Ilorin Royal Lions Club, Lion Amiomode Ogunleye, said they brought the project down, upon realization that most people are ignorant and don’t know their status.
Ogunleye revealed that it’s not the older ones only who have diabetes but the teens as well in which the younger ones don’t think or know they carry.
She said it is in light of this that screening is very important because it opens the eyes of the people to their status.
She said she reached out to other clubs for them to do something different this year and have a combined activities, which actually brought about the joint service.
