On Tuesday 14th September, Kashim Ibrahim Fellowship fellows had a insightful speaker series with Eyo Ekpo, a former Attorney General for the Cross River State Government, former NERC Commissioner for Market Competition and Rates and currently the Founder of Excredite Consulting Limited. We were also joined by the Senior Adviser, Counsellor to the Kaduna State Governor, Mr. Jimi Lawal.

Eyo really has some powerful insights on leadership and he spoke about “Technocrats, Politics and Reforms”. Where he emphasized that the role of a leader, as he quoted Jeff Immelt, is to “protect my good guys from my bad guys”, because they’d always be bad guys and you’d need allies.

He further reiterated that leadership is service, and one’s service is a tenure that should be administered faithfully with fairness, transparency and love, because the overall goal of government is to ensure people are able to live well and live long, and because Nigeria has defied all kinds of “isms” we simply need the Singaporean system where we can make government and service delivery more efficient. We must possess the right emotional intelligence as leaders and ensure, that as technocrats, we learn to become politicians without being overly political.
