Respite As Gov. Abba Offers Appointment to 5,500 BESDA Casual Teachers

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabiru Yusuf, has given appointment to 5,500 stagnated teachers in the state. Besides, the government promised distribution of free uniforms, digital tablets and reading materials to students in primary, junior and secondary schools to enhance quality education delivery in the state.

Yusuf, who gave the directive, yesterday, at a ceremony to mark the 2023 Education Week at the Government House, said that absorbing the teachers after their huge sacrifice to bridge the knowledge gap was naturally necessary.

The teachers, under the Basic Education Services Delivery for All (BESDA) scheme, were recruited for temporary teaching service in 2021 under the World Bank and Kano State teaching scheme.

The teachers, who were deployed to primary, secondary and Islamiyya schools to bridge the acute shortage of manpower, especially in the rural communities, were being paid N15,000 monthly.

They were, however, left stagnated after the expiration of the scheme. The governor, who directed the Commissioner for Education and office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) to complete the documentation and automatic admittance of the teachers into the civil service, said education remains top priority of his administration and would spare no little resources to create access to quality education and eliminate illiteracy in the state.

Yusuf, while reacting to the ugly rate of out-of-school children, stressed that the state government was ready to mob up the roaming school children back to the classroom with additional budgetary allocation to education.
