Quality leadership key to Nigerian Army’s operational successes – Gen. Wahab
AREWA AGENDA – The Director General, Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC), retired Maj.-Gen. Garba Wahab, has said that successes in the operations of the Nigerian Army depended largely on quality leadership.
Wahab said this at the graduation of participants of Leadership Skills Development Course 5/2022, conducted by the centre on Friday in Abuja.
He said the course was organised with the believe that a lot would be achieved if the right leadership is emplaced particularly in the army.
Wahab said the centre brought together junior officers and soldiers to challenge them within the learning environment on digital leadership.
He added that the course was meant to groom the participants for leadership, “because we believe that if we get leadership right, particularly for the army, a lot of things will be in place.
“The believe is that globally, counterterrorism and counter-insurgency operations are generally junior officers cadre led, because you cannot expect senior officers to lead battles, ambushes.
“So, when they understand what is their responsibilities, it goes a long way to help them become better when performing their duties.”

Wahab urged the participants to deploy the knowledge they had acquired to provide the right leadership in performing their duties for better results.
He challenged them to also apply the knowledge on leadership at their family levels to be able to make impact at organisational level.
The Director, Net Assessment, NARC and Course Coordinator, Brig.-Gen. Umar Aliyu, said the course was in tandem with the Chief of Army Staff’s vision.
He said that the vision was to have a professional army ready to accomplish assigned missions within a joint environment in the defence of the country.
Aliyu said the course, which was assembled on Nov. 7, had 43 participants comprising 14 officers and 39 soldiers from various army units and formations.
He added that it was designed to train and equip the participants with relevant leadership skills, creativity and critical thinking.
These, he said, were essential to improve adaptation and innovative leadership for optimal outcome in an evolving security environments.
According to him, all the 43 participants performed well both in theoretical and practical assessments and have collectively met the required standard of training for the award of NARC certificates.
The Course Senior, Maj. Adams Ngbede, who spoke on behalf of the participants, thanked the Nigerian army and the centre for giving them the opportunity to acquire leadership skills.
Ngbede pledged that they would apply the knowledge in future endeavours and contribute to effective leadership in the army. (NAN)
