Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo and the Fate of African Education

Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo and the Fate of African Education

By Dr. Habib Awais Abubakar

AREWA AGENDA – There is indisputable evidence that African education system, or more precisely Nigerian education system is at crossroads. Despite the abundant human and natural resources in the continent of Africa, coupled with huge number of wealthy individuals of international acclaim, the story of education in this part of the world is at sorry state.

It is regretful to say that succeeding administrations and wealthy individuals of Africa, Nigeria and especially those of northern extraction have not done enough to save the region and its people from the excruciating illiteracy and poverty threatening to tear the region apart. It is soul destroying to see that those in leadership positions are only concern with the welfare of their immediate family members at the expense of the general populace; this among other several selfish acts and narrow mindedness of some people in the position of authority led to the near collapse of public education system in Nigeria.

However, there emerged a young, dynamic, focused, innovative and brave professor by name Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo. He is vibrant,

detribalized, and a bridge-builder with track-record of excellence. In less than a decade Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo has successfully revolutionized education in sub-Saharan Africa thereby bringing it to the door-step for all and sundry, through the establishment of Maryam Abacha American University of Niger in Maradi and the provision of several scholarship programs.

The story of Prof. Gwarzo is inexplicable and mystifying. The young man who hails from Sabon Layi in Gwarzo local government area of Kano, is a man with an unsatiable desire to transform lives and society. He smartly realizes that the best way to empower humans is through the provision of education especially to the indigent population of Africa.

On the ground of credibility and internationalization, Prof. Gwarzo emerges as the pioneer President General of the Association of African Private Universities (AAPU). His vision to eradicate illiteracy and poverty in Africa is yielding positive results. He has successfully established MAAUN in Maradi, Republic of Niger and with the commencement of academic activities at the newly established Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria, Kano on 23rd May, 2022, the proposed Franco-British International University (FBIU),

Kaduna, The Canadian University and MAAUN Togo among others, Professor Gwarzo becomes the first Nigerian to set up a conglomerate and citadel of learning in the world’s second-largest and second-most populous continent.

I am going to conclude this piece with three key issues that Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo has been advocating all the time, thus: quality education, innovation and internationalization.
