Ex-NMA’s 2nd VP Emerges President Nigeria Cancer Society

AREWA AGENDA – The immediate past 2nd Vice President of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Dr. Dr Adamu Alhassan Umar has emerged President of the Nigeria Cancer Society (NCS).

According to a statement signed by it’s Director of Publicity, Murtala A. Aliyu, Dr. Adamu was unanimously elected President of the 22nd National Executive Council.

Other executive council members elected are: Mr Elijah H. O Elijah as Vice President, Prof Hadiza Abdullahi Usman as Secretary General, Dr Malami Usman Aliyu as Assistant Secretary General, Miss Ogechi Irechukwu as Treasurer, Dr Saleh Yuguda as Deputy Treasurer and Mr Murtala A. Aliyu as Director of Publicity.

While congratulating members of the society for a successful 2020 Annual General Meeting, AGM, the statement called on all members to join hands in moving the society to greater heights.

The Nigerian Cancer Society (NCS) was founded on October 12, 1968, with the objective to assist in the development of facilities for diagnosis and treatment of cancer, to educate the public on ther problems of cancer, and to conduct research in all aspects of cancer.

Since its founding, the society has expanded beyond the original founding town of Ibadan, and branches now exist in six geo-political zones of Nigeria.

NCS’ first major successful publication was in 1982 with the book “Cancer in Nigeria-the proceedings of the NCS conference held in December 1979.” Since 1970, Nigerian Cancer Society has been associate UICC member.
