POLIO: Adamawa govt. to vaccinate 1.2m children
AREWA AGENDA – Adamawa Primary Healthcare Development Agency (ADPHCDA) says it will vaccinate no fewer than 1.2 million children against polio virus, to sustain the free polio status of the state.
The agency’s Chairman, Dr Suleiman Bashir, disclosed this during the presentation of COVID-19 protective materials by World Health Organisation (WHO), on Friday in Yola.
He said that the support was timely and that it would help in the successful conduct of the forthcoming outbreak response in the state.

“We are to vaccinate the children in order to build their immunity to sustain the pains of the polio elimination that we have recorded.
“We were getting wide polio virus in the previous rounds; we have now exceeded our target of 1.1 million. And, we are targeting 1.2 million to be able to declare what we have achieved,” he said.
Bashir said that the agency had done a lot to ensure sustainability of the efforts at eliminating polio virus in the state.
In his remarks, acting Coordinator of WHO in Adamawa, Abubakar Aliyu, said that the materials were meant for distribution across healthcare facilities in all the 21 local government areas of the state.
He called on all the benefitting health facilities to make judicious use of the materials in their respective areas.
