Police Kill 1, Arrest 3 Kidnappers of Gombe Lawmaker’s Daughters

AREWA AGENDA- The Gombe State Police Command yesterday said it has arrested three persons suspected to be members of a kidnapping syndicate at Tudun-Kwaya and Kashere axis of Akko LGA of the state while one other member was killed in a cross fire.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Obed Mary Malum, in a statement said the arrest followed a report that on March 4, at about 0100hours, 10 suspected armed bandits and kidnappers invaded the residence of Abdullahi Abubakar, a member of the state House of Assembly at Tumu, and abducted two of his daughters.

She said on March 7, the personnel of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in partnership with hunters acting on an intelligence stormed the bushes and hills around Tudun-Kwaya and Kashere axis, where one Dabo Yusuf, 40; Shehu Saleh, 30 and Mamman Haruna, 35; were arrested.

According to her, one of the suspects was shot in a cross fire and was confirmed dead by doctors at the Specialist Hospital in Gombe, where he was taken for treatment.

SP Malum said the daughters of the lawmaker (names withheld) were rescued unhurt.

The police spokesperson said all the suspects confessed to the crimes during investigation and took the police to their hideouts where one AK47 rifle with 20 rounds of live ammunitions, military camouflage, assorted charms, locally made bullet proof vests, green leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, were recovered.

Malum added that efforts are being intensified by the police to apprehend the other suspected accomplices on the run.
