Over 90 People Reportedly Died, 50 Others Hospitalized In Jigawa Fuel Tanker Explosion 

Over 90 people have been confirmed dead and 50 others hospitalised when a petrol tanker crashed in Majiya village of Taura local government area of Jigawa State.

The incident occurred at around 12:30 am on Wednesday with the tanker said to have fallen, making villagers scoop fuel before the explosion.

Mr Shi’isu Adam, the Police Spokesperson in Jigawa, confirmed this in an interview with NAN on Wednesday.

He said: “Today (Wednesday) a petrol tanker from Port Harcourt going to Nguru in Yobe state reached Majiya village of Taura local government area at around 12:30 am the driver lost control at Majiya and fell down.

“The content in the tanker flooded gutters and drainages in the village. The villagers started fetching the fuel where the the petrol went into flame.

“As a result, 95 people confirmed died and 50 have been hospitalised receiving treatment”.

The spokesperson said that a mass burial of the victims would be held by 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

He added that the injured were receiving medical attention at the Ringim General Hospital.

In Jigawa State, people gathered around a tanker involved in an accident to collect petrol.
