UPDATE: ‘Half’ of Looted Items During Protest In Kano Reportedly ‘Recovered’, As Police Conduct House-to-House Searches
Kano state government has confirmed that about half of the billions of Naira items looted at the Digital Industrial Park of the Nigerian Communication Commission, NCC and other places during the Thursday’s protest in the state have been recovered.
According to BizPoint, hundreds of rampaging hoodlums on Thursday attacked the Digital Industrial Park, established by the Nigerian Communication Commission, NCC, during the nationwide protest against hunger.
The hoodlums had reportedly carted away equipment worth billions of Naira and burnt some parts of the ICT park, billed for commissioning on August 7.
They also burnt Kano Printing Press, attacked several corner shops and looted the items.
Kano State Police Command had already paraded over 300 suspects on Friday.
However, BizPoint gathered that on Friday, security agents launched house-house search to recover the items and arrest the perpetrators in collaboration with community leaders at some identified areas.
Speaking on BBC Hausa on Saturday morning, monitored by BizPoint in Kano, the state’s Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo said more recovery and arrest are expected as the search operation is ongoing.
“Security agents, during house-house search operation, have recovered 40 to 50 percent of the items stolen at NCC ICT park and other places attacked by hoodlums during the protest,” he confirmed.

Gwarzo alleged that the unfortunate attacks was spearheaded by some oppositions with a sinister motive to destroy the state.
According to him, the government had credible intelligence and evidences that the attacked were sponsored by the opposition, emphasizing that they are working assiduously to ensure the mastermind and their foot soldiers that perpetrated the heinous acts are brought to book.
“Security agents have recovered about 40 to 50% of the looted items by searching house-house. We have concrete evidences of opposition sponsoring the attacks and looting.
“We are not suspecting, we have credible information and evidences that some bad politicians sponsored thugs to attack and cause destruction in the state, and the government will not rest on its ores untill all the mastermind and perpetrators are brought to book,” he said.
The Deputy Governor said the ongoing curfew would continue until when the security agencies are convinced that the security situation is improved in the state.
“Let me use this opportunity to appeal to the good people of the state to be patient and continue be obedient of law and order as the government is working hard to ensure the situation improve.
“The curfew will continue as security are watching the situation. They will give advice on what to do. When they are convinced that the situation is improved, they will give advice to relax the curfew.
“We also call on parents to be very serious about handling their children. Stop your children from participating in this kind of bad acts that put you in regrets,” he said.
