Ogun chairmanship aspirant calls for calm over coronavirus

NEWS DIGEST – A leading aspirant in the race for the Chairmanship of Ewekoro Local Government in Ogun State, Oloye Zaid Olayiwola, has appealed  for calm.

This is coming as the Italian who brought the virus into the country was traced to Ewekoro Local Government.

Mr. Olayiwola also disclosed that the State Government, through the Commissioner of Health, is taking the right steps towards controlling and preventing the spread of the deadly virus.

In an interactive session with press and members of various communities in the local government, the aspirant urged the community members to abide by basic hygienic conditions, such as hand washing and using tissue to cover cough or sneeze.

“We must learn to disinfect hard surfaces, and stay at home if we are sick. It is also pertinent that we listen to local media for updates on the epidemic from the State Government,” he said.

Mr Olayiwola further advised them to call Federal Government’s line of 0800-970000-10, if they suspect someone may have been infected with the virus, in their communities.

He enjoined them to shun rumours and avoid causing panic through fake news.

The Chairmanship aspirant, noted that Governor Dapo Abiodun, as the Chief Custodian of Health in Ogun State, has opened an “Infectious Disease and Detection Centre” at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), in Sagamu, to diagnose persons’ with symptoms of the disease.
