The recent suspension of Dr. Sani Balarabe, Director/CEO of Intercountry Centre for Oral Healthcare (ICOH) for Africa in Jos, has raised eyebrows and sparked concerns about the fairness and transparency of the process. Despite his outstanding achievements and progress made during his tenure, Dr. Balarabe was suspended based on baseless allegations.
However, the team’s unofficial visit to ICOH and subsequent suspension of Dr. Balarabe have been marred by allegations of bias, lack of fair hearing, and violation of natural justice.

Dr. Balarabe’s achievements at ICOH are undeniable. During his tenure, he increased the staff strength from 23 to 188, secured a significant increase in the overhead of mere N700,000/month to N12.8million/month, capital budget from N13 million/annum to approx. N1.5 billion in 2024, and oversaw the construction of various physical projects, including a clinic complex, office administration block, auditorium, and procurement of staff research vehicles and medical equipment. His efforts have transformed ICOH from a moribund state into a reputable institution, and his suspension is a setback to the progress made.
The team came to ICOH and gathered information from staff to use against Dr. Balarabe which lacks transparency and purely biased.
The collection of staff attendance and information from staff in a biased manner, raise questions about their intentions and impartiality.
Furthermore, the suspension of Dr. Balarabe violates his right to a fair hearing. The actions taken against him are a clear encroachment on his rights and go against the principles of natural justice, equity, and good conscience.
In light of these circumstances, we call for the immediate reinstatement of Dr. Sani Balarabe as the Director/CEO of ICOH. His suspension is unjust, and his contributions to the institution and oral healthcare in Africa should not be disregarded.
