Northern Youth Group Demands Removal, Prosecution of CCT Chairman Over Assault Scandal

The Northern Youths Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has demanded the immediate removal and Prosecution of Danladi Umar as Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) for alleged abuse of power.

Umar was caught on video assaulting a security man, Clement Sargwak, a 22-year old Employee of Jul Reliable Guard Services Limited in Banex Plaza, Abuja who had told him his vehicle was wrongly parked.

In statement signed by NYCN President Monday which was made available to newsmen, the group faulted the CCT Chairman for using the term “Biafran Boys,” in his account of the incidence.

The NYCN also faulted the CCT’s spokesperson, Ibraheem Al-Hassan, for what it described as his “prejudicial” attempt to defend the incidence.

“The Council frowns at the CCT Chairman usage of “Biafran Boys” to describe Nigerians who are going about their lawful business. We note this as an attempt to stir division in the country so that he will escape public scrutiny and consequences of his action.

The Council further noted that Assuming without conceeding that the guard actually threatened the CCT Chairman, what was the right thing for him to do? Take law into his hands? No. The conduct of the Judicial Officer has succeeded in inspiring millions of Nigerians to start taking law into their hands anytime they feel slighted.” It said

It therefore listed listed some demands as follows:

“Danladi Umar to resign from his position as the CCT Chairman. We have every reason to believe that anybody from Eastern Nigeria that appears before CCT can’t get justice, following the “Biafran” mindset he holds against them.”

“The Inspector General of Police should immediately Arrest and Prosecute him for assaulting a law abiding Nigerian in his duty post.”

“Presidency should has a matter of urgency replaced Danladi as the Chairman of Code of Conduct Tribunal if he fails to resign voluntarily.”

“National Assembly to stop appropriating money to the Tribunal if Umar fails to resign and the Presidency decides to retain.”

” Danladi Umar to apologized to South Easterners who believe in unity of Nigeria and are working hard to guarantee.”

It finally called on members of Northern Youths Council of Nigeria to prepare for a grand protest if it’s demands are not met.
