Northern Elders Forum Calls for Immediate End to #EndSARS Protests
AREWA AGENDA – This is in a statement released by the Forum’s Director Publicity and Advocacy, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed.
He disclosed that the forum followed the protests which began as response to the prolonged and widespread abuse by Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and related issues on the need for higher levels of accountability by leaders and state institutions.
The forum also advised the government to embark on far-reaching changes and reforms, and to introduce policies that would improve the security and economic well-being of Nigerians.

While commending the tremendous success of the protest including acceptance of responsibility for the Federal Government to abolish SARS and undertake further action towards improving accountability of operatives and institutions, Hakeem Baba acknowledges the heroism of youths who stood up to say, ‘enough!’
He noted the tragedy of losing lives in the process of the protests and decry that other interests have taken over these protests and are compounding our collective security
“Like most Nigerians, the Forum is alarmed at criminal acts such as attacks on specific persons, emptying prisons, molesting innocent citizens and attacking policemen” Hakeem said.
He further stated: “If these acts continue as they wish, unless we bring these protests to an immediate end, every law-abiding citizen, including the protesters who are pursuing their legitimate goals, are in danger.”
The forum further calls on the Federal Government to take steps to protect innocent citizens and honour its commitment to serious changes in the manner it handles our security.
