NNPP Internal Crisis Gets Messier, As Governor Yusuf Reportedly Defies Kwankwaso’s Orders, Retains Key Officials
Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has reportedly defied directives from his political mentor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, by retaining Secretary to the State Government Abdullahi Baffa Bichi and Commissioner of Transport Muhammad Diggol.
This move according to POLITICS DIGEST comes amid rising tensions within the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
Quoting sources, POLITICS DIGEST noted that Yusuf declined an invitation to meet with Kwankwaso at his residence, instead sending a letter citing an official commitment in the Federal Capital Territory.

This refusal follows the suspension of Bichi and Diggol from the NNPP, imposed by State Chairman Hashimu Sulaiman Dungurawa, who accused them of creating discord and exhibiting disloyalty within the party.
In a recent video, Governor Yusuf was seen facilitating a reconciliation meeting between Bichi and Hamza Maifata, the NNPP Chairmanship flagbearer, at the Government House.
During this meeting, Bichi reaffirmed his loyalty to the governor and indicated that disputes in his local government had been resolved.
He also distanced himself from a faction urging the governor to severe ties with Kwankwaso, promoting a message of independence for Yusuf.
Despite the political upheaval, Yusuf’s decision to bypass the meeting with Kwankwaso and retain his officials suggests a significant shift in his political stance.
His Senior Special Assistant delivered the notification letter to Kwankwaso’s residence, highlighting the growing rift between the governor and his political mentor.
