Nigeria at the risk of high zoonotic diseases – Dr Muhammad Adamu
AREWA AGENDA – The Head of Department, Medical Microbiology and Parasitology , College of Health Sciences, Bayero University Kano, Dr Muhammad Adamu Abbas has emphasized self precautions against the frequent contact with Animals in the country.
Dr Muhammad said this During the July seminar series organised by Community Health and Research Initiative (CHR) in collaboration with Youth Society For The Prevention of Infectious Diseases Social Vices (YOSPIS) in Kano state.

While speaking, Dr Adamu observed that in Africa, including Nigeria people are found of the habit of being in frequent contact with animals, the culture which he said had exposed a lot of people to zoonotic disease in the environment out ignorance.
Dr Abbas described zoonosis disease as any disease or infection that is naturally transmissible from vertebrate animals to humans.
He warned that one of the major ways of contracting the diseases is direct and indirect, water, food and vector borne.
He also stated that 80% of bioterrorism agents are pathologies of animal organs, caused by harmful germs like viruses, bacterias, parasites, and fungi Which cause different forms of illnesses in people at a figure of 2.2million people die yearly.
Dr Muhammad advised the Government and other relevant stakeholders on a massive campaign against the prevention of zoonoses in society.
