2022: Nigeria Records 23,550 Cholera Cases, 583 Deaths in 32 States

AREWA AGENDA – Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has said the country recorded 23,550 suspected cases of cholera with 583 deaths across 32 States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) between January and November 2022.

NCDC, in its Cholera Situation Report for (Epi Week: 47 2022) released yesterday, said the affected 32 states include Abia, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Delta, Ekiti, FCT, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Nasarawa, Niger, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Rivers, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe and Zamfara.

The report stated that six states: Borno, Yobe, Katsina, Gombe, Taraba and Kano accounted for 84 percent of all cumulative cases, adding that 15 LGAs across five states: Borno, Yobe, Taraba, Gombe and Zamfara reported more than 200 cases each.

It also stated that in the reporting month of November, six states reported 1,393 suspected cases. The states are Borno (1124), Gombe (165), Bauchi (61), Katsina (16), Adamawa (14) and Kano (13).

However, the report showed 78 per cent decrease in the number of new suspected cases in November (1393) compared with October (6306).
