Kogi State governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo on Tuesday joined other Nigerians to celebrate Nigeria’s 64th independence anniversary.

Addressed the people of Kogi State, Ododo celebrated the nation’s achievements, while urging unity and resilience amid ongoing challenges.

In his speech, Governor Ododo reflected on Nigeria’s journey since gaining independence from British colonial rule, emphasizing the sacrifices of national heroes and past leaders who contributed to the nation’s unity. “Though our path has been fraught with challenges, we continue to strive for greatness,” he stated, highlighting Nigeria’s diverse cultures and the strength that comes from it.

The governor expressed strong support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies and currency harmonization, asserting that these bold moves, while painful, are necessary for Nigeria’s long-term prosperity.

“These reforms will elevate our socioeconomic indices and improve the quality of life for all citizens,” he affirmed.

Addressing immediate concerns, Ododo cautioned residents about the ongoing flood risks in the region, emphasizing preparedness measures and urging communities in flood-prone areas to evacuate. He assured citizens of the state’s readiness to respond to emergencies, supported by new equipment for rescue efforts.

Highlighting achievements in Kogi State, the governor outlined his administration’s focus on sectors like agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare, and education. He announced the successful distribution of agricultural inputs to enhance productivity and noted significant investments in road rehabilitation and security enhancements.

Ododo also introduced the Ododo Youth Empowerment and Skill Acquisition Programme (OYESA), aimed at equipping over 250 youths with vital skills for the job market. This initiative is part of a broader commitment to tackle unemployment and foster self-sufficiency among the youth.

As Kogi prepares for local government elections later this month, Governor Ododo called for active participation, assuring citizens that the electoral process will be free and fair. He urged support for candidates from the ruling APC to ensure continuity of progress in the state.

He reiterated his commitment to building a prosperous, inclusive Kogi State and wished all Nigerians a joyous Independence Day. “May we celebrate with a renewed spirit of unity and faith,” he concluded, invoking hope for a future marked by peace and prosperity.
