AREWA AGENDA – The scorching sun will descend upon her mercilessly, the hot sand will eat deep into her skin, yet, 11 year old Fatima Yushau, an Orphan is desperate about attending school.
Findings by Arewa Agenda reveals that Fatima, a physically disabled Class Two Pupil of Dan Shayi Primary School in Rimin Gado Local Government Area, will defy all the odds against her and make the over one Kilometer trip to and from school daily.
“She just loves attending school, she is very passionate about education and would never agree to miss class for anything.” Says her school teacher.
When the Arewa Agenda team set out to Fatima’s House under the sun, led by her Headmaster Ahmadu Ali, the Journey was unbearable even on two legs and the team sought a shade to catch some breath when the arrived at Fatima’s House.

However, upon sighting her teacher, Fatima’s face lit with smiles and dazzles as she happily crawled to welcome home, she was obviously super excited to see her teacher and her eyes was on him all through the stay with her vintage smile refusing to vanish.
Fatima is totally unable to work and is in dire need of a wheelchair to aid her passion for education.
Speaking to Arewa Agenda, her grandmother said Fatima fell sick along with her mother immediately she was delivered, five months later, the husband divorced her mother saying he could not bear the medical burden hence would not be able to live with them anylonger.
When accused of not immunizing the little Fatima, the grandmother simply showed the Arewa Agenda team the spot on her hand where she was immunized.
Fatima’s mother has died about eight months ago and she lives with her grandmother in Karofin Yashi, of Dan Shayi village.
She often crawls to school alone or sometimes accompanied by her relatives of friends and something she is often dropped off by her headmaster by his motorbike on the way home.
Unfortunately for Fatima, despite her love for studies she may not be in for the best education experience as her school is in total dilapidation.
The ceiling boards have wared off, the doors and windows unhinged and no desk, blackboard and teaching aids for conducive learning.
