The Kano State Sharia court sitting in Kwana Hudu has ordered that a 25-year-old man, Yakubu Haruna, be given 15 lashes of the cane for stealing sugarcane.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Aliyu Abidin Murtala, told the court that one Abdullahi Muhammad, a resident of the Rimin Kebe, complained to the police division in Zango that the defendant stole two sticks of sugarcane from him, contrary to Section 133 of the Kano State Penal Code.
The accused pleaded guilty to the charge and the Khadi, Nura Yusuf Ahmed, ordered that he be given 15 strokes of the cane being his first time of committing a crime.
