Kebbi Emir seeks return of historic artifacts by British Govt

AREWA AGENDA – The Emir of Argungu, in Kebbi, Alhaji Samaila Mera, has appealed to the British Government to return some of the historic artefacts of former Kebbi Kingdom missing during the colonial era.

Mera made the appeal when he received British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Cantriona Laing in his palace in Argungu on Wednesday.

Represented by Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan, High Chief of the Argungu Emirate Council, he explained that some of the old artefacts went missing during the colonial rule in the kingdom.
“I want to make this request and appeal to the British Government to please, help us to return all our missing artefacts to Kabi Royal Palace,” he said.

He also condoled with the British government and her people over the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The emir noted that the history of Nigeria would not be complete without mentioning the role of United Kingdom.

Earlier, Laing, appreciated the warm reception accorded her and her team at the emir’s palace.
She explained that the state Governor, Atiku Bagudu, had told her many things about the state in the areas of economy, history, and how the state was united by the peculiarity of existential four emirates.

The commissioner also visited Kanta Museum, Wacot Rice Mill in Argungu, where she interacted with management and staff of the company. (NAN)
