KCSF BoT Reportedly  Suspends Ibrahim Waiya Over Alleged Misconduct

The Kano Civil Society Forum (KCSF) has suspended Malam Ibrahim Waiya and his organization, the Citizens for Development and Education (CDE), from its membership and activities for a period of one year, effective November 20, 2024.

The suspension was disclosed in a letter signed by Hamisu Isa Sharifai, the Secretary of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the KCSF and made available to newsmen in Kano.

This development is coming a day after a Kano State High Court, presided over by Hon. Justice Usman Mallam Na’abba, struck out the case filed against KCSF by Malam Waiya, thus, reaffirmed the legitimacy of the election held on June 8, 2024.

The Board cited misconducts and actions aimed at undermining the unity and integrity of KCSF as the reasons behind this decision.

According to the BoT, the suspension follows Waiya’s refusal to respond to an invitation earlier sent to him on July 27, 2024, to address complaints of misconduct.

“The Board of Trustees reached this decision to suspend you upon review of the situation following the invitation it sent you dated 27th July 2024, to meet with the Board and respond to complaints of misconduct that had been labelled against you. It noted that you

failed to attend the meeting and did not respond after giving you ample time to do so,” Mr. Sharifai said.

Furthermore, Mr. Sharifai noted that, Malam Waiya has been impersonating the leadership of KCSF by continuing to parade himself as President despite the expiration of his interim leadership tenure and the election of a new Executive Council.

Other gross misconducts perpetrated by Malam Waiya include spreading false information about the Forum, undermining the process of the recently concluded election, monopolizing and misusing the Forum’s official communication platform among others.

“You disobeyed the directive to make funds available from the accounts of the Forum that was under your control for organising the election.

“Your action would have prevented the election from taking place had not the Board found other means of sourcing funds,” said Mr. Sharifai.

According to Mr. Sharifai, based on these offences committed by Waiya, the BoT was left with no choice but to invoke Section 13(4) of the Forum’s Constitution to suspend him and his organization from the KCSF.

“It is on the basis of these acts of misconduct and insubordination that the Board invoked Section 13(4) of the Forum’s Constitution and Bye-Laws, to suspend you and the organization that you represent on the Forum for one year.” Mr. Sharifai added.
