KASU VC shares thought on how to ensure strike-free varsity education

AREWA AGENDA – Prof. Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa, Vice Chancellor of the Kaduna State University (KASU) has shared his thought on the best way to ensure strike-free education system in Nigeria.

He made the observation in at the university campus while speaking at a conference organised by the Kaduna State Council of Non-Academics Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU).

He said the best way is for the staff unions of universities and other tertiary institutions in Nigeria to see themselves as partners with government and managements.

The Vice Chancellor while speaking on theme of the conference, ‘Conflict Resolution Mechanism in the Work Place’, said it is only with harmonious working relationship between labour unions and management of academic institutions that Nigeria’s education can develop.

Conflict is a normal way of life. There is no organisation, institution or country that develops without experiencing conflicts, but the problem with us here in Nigerian and other developing countries is how we manage conflicts. What we do to understand what brought about the conflict is what matters.

“In the past, there was always tension between labour unions and managements of higher institutions… What we need to do is for all of us to come together as a team to understand the vision and mission of our institutions and then for us to work as partners towards actualising the vision.
