KAROTA insists N100 daily levy on Tricycle riders

AREWA AGENDA – The Managing Director, Kano State Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA), Hon Baffa Babba Dan’agundi on Monday insisted that despite the ongoing strike of tricycle riders in the state, the government will not rescind its decision on the daily N100 tax payment by the operators.

Tricycle riders in Kano have embarked on a warning strike over the daily N100 levy imposed on them by KAROTA.

Last week, tricycle riders in the state protested for days over the levy before embarking on the strike from today.

Dan’agundi stated this in an interview with newsmen on Monday as the tricycle riders withdrew their services over the payment of the daily N100 tax levy.

’Honestly, we would not dialogue with them over this levy which is very clear, ‘’said Dan’agundi.

The KAROTA Managing Director noted that the strike of the tricycle riders cannot arm-twist the agency to reverse the payment of the levy.

However, it was observed that the strike is having a serious impact on commuters in the state as many had to embark on trekking and make do with minivan.

Politics Digest reports that KAROTA headquarters in Kano is presently being managed by police personnel as the agency personnel were not on the major roads for duty.

Efforts to speak with, Chairman, Tricycle owners Association of Nigeria, Kano Branch, Alhaji Sani Dankoli proved abortive as his phone was not attended to neither did he reply to text message sent to him.
