Karaye Emirate – A Symbol of Hope and Prosperity
By Usman Sarki Madobi
Traditional ruling system is as old as the history of northern Nigeria as it was the ancient form of leadership that united people particularly in the northern States of the country.
Karaye being an old kingdom with a long history have had several leaders (Sarakuna) and District heads who led people with much concern over their wellbeing and have successfully achieved such goal of good leadership.
Interestingly, today, Karaye has regained its position of being an independent kingdom (now an emirate) with a first class Emir (Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar II). This development came at a time when the need of traditional rulers become so imperative especially in the quest for improved security and social amenities in the country particularly the northern part of the country.
In line with this, the Emir of Karaye Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar II became at the forefront in fixing the broken window that predisposed the emergence of different social problems that are undermining the security of the country.

This can be attested from the series of efforts made by Karaye Emirate in addressing such challenges including formation of various committees to identify the genesis of the problems undermining social, economic and political development in his kingdom.
This has greatly help in bringing together and uniting various groups of people such as farmers, herders, business men and youths so as to address conflicting problems among them with a view to proffering lasting solutions.
The Emir has also adopted an open door policy to enable the people in the emirate to express their satisfaction and lay their complaint to the Emir directly for immediate necessary action. This has helped the Emir in gaining more popularity and loyalty from the people of the emirate.
However, this great wisdom is attributed to level of knowledge and vast experience of His Highness, the Emir of Karaye Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar II which can be clearly seen and felt from his words and actions.
In light of this, Karaye emirate emerged to be a symbol of hope and prosperity worth supporting and emulating by other Emirates in the state and the country at large.
May Allah continue to guide, support and bless Karaye Emirate, Kano State and Nigeria at large.
