AREWA AGENDA – From a distance it looks like an internally displaced persons camp trying to be set up, coming closer one will understand that this is the premises of kano State Police Command Bompai in Kano, where Looters who took advantage of the #EndSars Protest in Kano, where displayed with their various looted items.

The Kano State Police Command, said it arrested this 59 suspected hoodlums under the cover of Endersars protest.

While parading the suspects before newsmen in Kano, the police public relations officer DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa said that among the 59 arrested suspects, thirty one are for looting, vandalism and malicious damage of properties which In the process seven vehicles, one tricycle and two (2) motorcycles were burnt; eight (8) vehicles vandalized.

Furthermore, thirty eight (38) Shops including the new ultra modern Galaxy Mall and Chicken Republic were also looted and vandalized.

Some of the suspects confessed to their crimes.

Kiiyawa confirmed that twenty eight (28) other suspects arrested for other crimes within EndSars Protest period are under investigation.

He said that the suspects would be charged to court for prosecution as soon as investigation was concluded.

I welcome you once again to the Police Command Headquarters Bompai, Kano to update you on the aftermath of #EndSars Protest in the State.

2. On the 19/10/2020 at about 0715hrs, uncoordinated groups of protesters mobilized at Sabon Gari Quarters Kano under the cover of “EndSars Protest” carried out procession from Sarkin Yaki Area of Sabon Gari to France Road up to Kwakwaci and Airport Road where some of protesters trespassed into a Political Party Office, removed the Flags and pelted stones.

3. Similarly, on 20/10/2020 at about 0650hrs, the so called #EndSars groups defied all consultations/advice of critical community/security stakeholders, remobilized and embarked on another protest/procession where the whole situation was hijacked by hoodlums and clashes erupted and resultant destruction and looting. Some attacked innocent people, burnt and vandalized properties.

4. The swift and timely deployments of security personnel by the Commissioner of Police Kano State Command *CP Habu A. Sani psc* who directed teams of Operation Puff Adder led by *DCP Sule Balarabe* to proceed to the scene, restore normalcy in the area and arrest the perpetrators of these heinous acts. In the same vein, *CP Habu A. Sani, psc* immediately engaged critical Community Policing stakeholders such as; Traditional Rulers, Community and Religious Leaders, Youths Groups, Civil Society Organizations, the Media, etc, on the need to preach and sensitize members of the public on peace and peaceful coexistence, and also assured them of the command’s commitment for the safety and security of the State.

5. With these engagements and consultations, normalcy was immediately restored in the area and Fifty Nine (59) suspects were arrested. Out of which Thirty one (31) suspects are for looting, vandalism and malicious damage properties. Seven (7) Vehicles, One (1) Tricycle and Two (2) Motorcycles were burnt; Eight (8) Vehicles vandalized, Thirty Eight (38) Shops including Galaxy Mall and Chicken Republic were looted and vandalized in the area, and Twenty Eight (28) other suspects arrested for other crimes within EndSars Protest period are under investigation.

6. The Summary of the arrest made as well as looted properties recovered is hereby highlighted:-

i. Thirty One (31) suspects were arrested for looting, vandalizing and malicious damage to public and private properties.

Two (2) Grinding Machines
Five (5) Motorcycles including one burnt Motorcycle.
Five (5) Empty 10.2kg Drums
Six (6) Plastic Drums
Five (5) Television Sets
Two (2) Luminous 220 Inverter Batteries
One (1) Sack Containing Drugs & Injection
Nine (9) New Wrappers
One (1) New Head Gear
Ten (10) Boxes containing clothes.
Forty Four (44) Brand New Motor Cycle Tires
One (1) Sack Containing Motorcycle Tubes
One (1) Cushion Chair
Ten (10) Ceiling and Standing Fans
Four (4) Air Conditioners
Twelve (12) Mattresses
