UPDATE: Respite As Kano ‘Mairuwa’ Widow Gets Lifeline
A widow in Kano state, who resorted to selling water to cater for her six orphans has gotten supports from philanthropists that will certainly remove her from the shackles of abject poverty.
The widow, simply identified as Gambo, was posted by Fauziyya D. Sulaiman a social worker and Executive Director of Creative Helping Needy Foundation, a Non Governmental Organization that struggles to provide succour to vulnerable people in Kano and northern Nigeria.
Recall that well 9vet a week ago, Arewa Agenda reported that there was a trending video, where Gambo, a resident of Rimin-Kebe in Ungoggo Local Government area, was seen pushing a cart with water jerry cans to sell in the neighborhood in order to get the money to fend for her orphans.
She said in the video that she was compelled to engage in the male-dominated business, to feed her six orphans who had already stopped going to school due to lack of school fees and she was squatting in a single room, offered to her by a good samaritan before she get a permanent shelter after she was evicted from a rented house for failing to pay the rent.
The house under renovation
The video had generated a lot of sympathy to Gambo as the widow had now gotten a life-saving supports from philanthropists within and outside Kano.

In another post on her Facebook on Friday, Fauziyya D. Suleman disclosed that her NGO had purchased a house for the widow from the money donated to her by philanthropists.
According to her, the house, located at Rimin Kebe, is currently under renovation, as the widow, who is now smiling, is set to move into her own permanent shelter.
But Fauziyya did not mention how much the house was purchased.
Mrs Suleman also said apart from cash, the woman had also gotten donations of food items, adding that somebody had already offered to sponsor the children back to school.
She added that as soon as she move into her new house, the NGO would give her capital to start a business to sustain her life out of the money realized for her.
The social worker also disclosed that the former governor of Kano state, Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso had directed Honorable Sani Wakili, member representing Ungoggo Local Government Federal Constituency to go and see the situation of the woman and do the needful.
“As at now, the widow had already taken the cart she hired to sell the water to the owners. The house we bought for her is under renovation. She will move to the house immediately after the renovation works.
“Let me use this opportunity to thank everyone that supported this woman in cash or in kind. I appreciate the quick response to the plight of this widow by the general public.
“I am really elated for this kind gesture. Thank you very much,” Fauziyya posted.
