Kano Govt to Improve Lives of People With Disability, Provides MRI Machines
AREWA AGENDA – Kano State Government has vowed to come out with more measures aimed at improving the lives of people with disability in the State.
The State Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje gave the assurance today at the International Spinal Cord Injury Day Celebration organised by the Spinal Cord Injury Association of Nigeria, Kano Chapter in collaboration with State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), held at the State Government House.
Dr. Ganduje noted that the survival of people with disability especially victims of spinal cord injuries in this era of covid 19, is very challenging and there is the need for them to be supported at all times.
” Survival of people with disability particularly victims of spinal cord injuries in this era of covid 19 is equally challenging most especially when the ingredients and consumables required for the enhancement of lives of the victims are getting unaffordable due to the socio-economic realities of the moment ” said the Governor.
Ganduje represented by his Deputy,Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna announced that for his administration to live to its statutory responsibilities, a new modern MIR Machine had been provided for the assessment of spinal cord injury at Muhammad Buhari Specialist Hospital, adding that….” this administration has equally provided furniture and accessories worth over a million naira to furnish and equip your Secretariat.

” it is hoped that these items will be properly utilized to enhance your operations and I want to assure you that this administration will continue to do more to alleviate the suffering of your members through various palliative measures ” he stated.
He then expressed the State Government’s unflinching support and coorperation to complement effort of the Association in enhancing the lives of its members.
In his remarks, the Emir of Kano Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero represented by the Fagacin Kano Alhaji Habibu Bello Dankadai appealed to the Government and Corporate organisations to come to the aids of such associations of people with disability so as to make their live better.
Earlier, the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Alhaji Sale Aliyu Jili maintained that Kano State Government through the Agency is doing everything possible to cater for the lives of people with special needs especially in this period of Covid 19.
He however expressed the need for the establishment of a rehabilitation center for people with spinal cord injury in the County and Kano State in particular.
The Chairman Spinal Cord Injuries Association of Nigeria, Kano Chapter Engineer Abdul Haruna disclosed that the International Spinal Cord Society had decided to observe Spinal Cord Injury Day on 5th September every year with a view to increase awareness of spinal cord injuries among the General Public.
Engineer Abdul thanked the administration of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for the usual support it had been giving to the association in Kano and the country at large.
