Kano Govt to Partner Netherlands to Accelerate Agricultural Production, Mitigate Impacts of Climate Change
The Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has sought for a diplomatic support of the Kingdom of Netherlands to accelerate agricultural production and mitigation on the impact of climate change in the state.
Governor Yusuf disclosed the proposed diplomatic synergy with the Dutch government on Tuesday, when he played host to Ms Eva De Wit, First Secretary Migration at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands in Nigeria.
A statement by Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the spokesperson to the Governor, said the governor emphasized the impact driven landmark, which the Kingdom had recorded on agriculture and climate change in Europe.
According to the statement dated May 22, 2024 and copy o which was sent to Arewa Agenda, Governor Yusuf, who was passionate about the astronomical rate of agricultural development in the Netherlands, expressed his administration’s willingness to cement partnership for replication of the recipe in Kano.
He had taken the opportunity of the diplomatic visit to roll out some of the initiatives anchored by his administration to refocus the productivity of youth population in Kano and food security.
While intimating the Dutch delegation the level of devastating indices of drug abuse inherited from the immediate past administration, Governor Yusuf said 24 skill acquisition centres have been reopened to gainfully empower the youth.
Yusuf added that his government has also reformed and rehabilitated about 713 youth who engaged themselves in thuggery activities through concerted collaboration with the Nigerian Police to curb restiveness in the state.
On her part, Ms De Wit who was also accompanied by the Chief of Mission, International Organization for Migration, Mr. Laurent De Boeck pledged to collaborate with Kano state government in the areas of youth empowerment, food security and climate change.
