Kano Govt launches Palliative Distribution to PWDs
The Kano State Government has launched the distribution of food items to no fewer than 4,400 people with special needs, as part of its effort to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal in the state.
The distribution was launched by the state governor, Abba Yusuf, at KASCO office in Kano on Monday.
Represented by his deputy, Aminu Gwarzo, he said the government holds those with special needs in high esteem, adding that there are more perks for them.
He explained that the palliatives would be given to 100 persons with special needs from each of the 44 local government areas of the state.
Beneficiaries, according to the governor, include those with visual and hearing impairment, spinal cord problems, leprosy, cripples and albinos.
Mr Yusuf added that each of them would be given a 10kg bag of rice and millet across the 44 local government areas.

“Today we are flagging of the second phase of distribution of palliatives to the good people of Kano state.
“The first phase consisted of the general public which each and every ward in the state received 400 bags of rice and 400 bags of maize.
“This second phase consist of what we are doing today, distribution of the palliatives to people with special needs.
“Among those to benefit with this distribution exercise also are the widows and orphans of 19 number military and paramilitary forces in the state,” the governor said.
In his welcome address, the chairman of the State Compliance Committee on Distribution of Palliatives, Abdullahi Bichi, who is also the Secretary to the State Government, insisted that representatives of the beneficiaries must abide by the rules.
“Every beneficiary should be given one bag of maize and one bag of rice. No two people or more should be paired on a bag or be given only rice or only maize” he stated.
