Kano govt cautions against buying varsity land from encroachers

AREWA AGENDA – The Kano State Government has cautioned members of the public to be wary of land grabbers who encroach on Bayero university property at Rimin-Zakara and sell to people.

Bappa Dan-Agundi, Chairman Task Force on illegal structures, gave the warning on Friday while briefing newsmen on land being forcefully taken over by land speculators in the area.

He expressed disappointment that people could be emboldened to invade portions of land belonging to the university and sell them to people.

“I called on the general public to avoid illegal land transactions on the university’s land by unaccredited land dealers, whoever does so would have himself to blame”

“The government will not hesitate to pull down any illegal building or structure raised on the university property,” he warned.

The task force chairman said that the state government met with security agencies and the university management which confirmed that the people of Rimin-Zakara were not involved in the illegal deal.

He commended community leaders of the area for their cooperation and understanding.

Dan-Agundi explained that the state government would set up a committee to look further into the situation.
