Kano Government Launches ‘Sweet Ride’ Mass Transportation Scheme

Kano State Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsallam has assured residents of their safety following the launch of Sweet Ride, a mass transportation scheme in Kano.

The scheme was launched on Wednesday at Kano Pillars Stadium by Aminatu Usman, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, who represented the Deputy Governor.

She informed residents that the transportation service is state-accredited and has all of the necessary features to ensure that passengers are safely transported to various locations throughout the state.

“This transportation service has become an essential need for Nigerians, as it promises comfort, privacy, and security.

Sweet Ride is an impressive initiative that creates job opportunities while also meeting the transportation needs of Kano State residents.

“In situations where individuals might need transport services very late at night or in cases of emergencies, Sweet Ride operates a 24-hour service and is a safer alternative to conventional means of transport.

“It is also affordable and well secured, as all drivers and operators have undergone preliminary background screening before getting registered under this platform.” She said.

Gunu Usman, the Managing Director of Sweet Ride, emphasised that all drivers on the transportation service platform are members of registered and government-approved associations, so passengers can expect uninterrupted service while in transit.

“We make certain that we know all of our drivers, even to their homes, because we understand and prioritise safety and security.”

“A fantastic feature of the Sweet Ride app is the panic button, which allows passengers to alert security agencies through that panic button if they believe they are in danger or if a security situation arises.”

“Once completed, an SOS alert is sent to security agencies with the passenger’s location, and a response team is dispatched to track the location.

The same is true for the driver if he finds himself in a similar situation,” he said.

Usman also mentioned that the transportation service has an e-payment system that allows customers to pay without using cash.

According to Ibrahim Yusuf, Chief Executive Officer of Sweet Ride, highlighted that the scheme was created by young Nigerians and is a 100% Nigerian product.

“We are counting on Nigerians to help us create job opportunities for Kano’s growing population.

“Kano State was purposefully chosen to launch our service due to its population and cosmopolitan nature, and we hope to expand to other states in Nigeria.” He said.
