New Kano Law  Targeted at  Scrapping Ganduje’s Emirates, as Kwankwaso, Gov. Yusuf Reportedly Disagree over Sanusi’s Return

The Kano State House of Assembly has commenced the process of amending the Kano State Emirs (Appointment and Deposition) Law amidst call for the return of the deposed 14th Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II

The law will not only be amended but will scrap the 4 new emirates in the state to pave the way for Sanusi’s return.

The House resolved to amend the law during the plenary on Tuesday after the Majority Leader and member representing Dala constituency, Lawan Husseini Dala, moved the motion.

The law was first amended in 2019 during the rift between then-Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and the deposed Emir.

The first amendment had broken the Kano emirate into five different emirates with the creation of Rano, Karaye, Gaya and Bichi Emirates, and the appointment of First Class Emirs for the new emirates, eventually culminating in the deposition of then Emir of Kano.

This is part of the deposed Emir’s condition before his reinstallment. The governor had wanted to allow the other 4 emirates by making its Emirs secind class, but the deposed Emir insisted that Kano was known for one Emirate, and the idea of the creation of the other emirates was politically motivated not in good faith.

There have been misunderstandings between Governor Yusuf and his godfather over returning Sanusi as Emir of Kano. While the governor is in support of his return and is at the forefront of actualising the agenda, Kwankwaso is not comfortable with the move as he has no issue with the current Emir Aminu Ado Bayero

“Even before appointing Sanusi as Emir, it was the political atmosphere of that time that influenced it.

Jonathan’s government interest in appointing Lamido Sanusi Ado Bayero was what provoked Kwankwaso from appointing one of the late Emir’s son, but he had wanted to appoint Aminu Ado Bayero”. A sourced who pleaded for anonymity told this paper.

The former governor is seeing Sanusi as a threat and someone who will not stop making controversial statements.

According to POLITICS DIGEST’s  exclusive report, Senator Kwankwaso is only interested in  the idea of addressing boundary issues and the number of local governments the new emirates are in control of.

The former governor is against the idea of having Madobi where he came from under Karaye Emirate, Gezawa under Gaya, Kura under Rano and Minjibir under Bichi.

It’s not clear whether governor Yusuf will heed to his godfather’s demand of dropping the idea of returning Sanusi but the issue is capable of creating a serious feud between him and the person that made him governor.
