Kano Assembly Majority Leader impeached

NEWS DIGEST – Kano State House of Assembly on Wednesday impeached its Majority Leader, Labaran Abdul-Madari and replaced him with his Deputy, Kabiru Hassan-Dashi.

Daily Nigerian reports that the impeachment of the Majority Leader came shortly after a motion of urgent public importance, moved by newly-elected All Progressives Congress, APC, member representing Bunkure Constituency, Muhammad Uba-Gurjiya.

Mr Uba-Gurjiya was sworn in on Tuesday during the plenary session presided over by the Speaker, Abdulazeez Garba-Gafasa, following his success in the recent rerun elections in the state.

According to him, the decision to remove the majority leader followed the acceptance of 23 out of the 28 APC members in the Chamber of 40 representatives.

The motion was immediately seconded by another APC member representing Bagwai/Shanono, Ali Ibrahim-Shanono.

The newspaper reports that after passing the motion, the legislators unanimously adopted it and called on the majority leader to step aside.

After the removal of the majority leader, also APC member representing Sumaila Constituency, Hamza Massu nominated the deputy majority to be elected as the majority leader.

The nomination was seconded by some of the members and adopted by the assembly, therefore, becoming the Majority leader with immediate effect according to the house.
