Jigawa Assembly Speaker Aborts Foreign Trip Over Threats of Impeachment
Less than a year after he was sworn in as Speaker, Jigawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin is facing impeachment threat from some aggrieved members.
Trouble started after the Speaker joined Governor Umar Namadi’s delegation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on official trip when aggrieved members summoned emergency meeting to deliberate on the Speaker’s impeachment while he was away.
it was reliably gathered that, news of impeachment process has reached the ears of Governor Namadi and Speaker Dangyatin which compelled the speaker to suspend his trip and and catch a flight back home to thwart the efforts of his colleagues.
Arewa Agenda learnt that heavily armed security personnel took over the Assembly premises early enough on Tuesday to disrupt purported plan, as aggrieved members were forced to suspend their meetings.

At the time of filling in this story, it was not clear why some members moved against the Speaker, but might not be unconnected to power struggle between gladiators of the House.
A source at the assembly who spoke on condition of anonymity alleged that “the grand plot against Rt. Hon. Dangyatin was designed to pave way for the member representing Dutse constituency, Hon. Tasiu Soja as possible replacement”.
Effort to contact any of the principal officers proved abortive as their phones are not going, but the Spokesman of the Jigawa state police command, DSP Lawan Shiihu Adam confirmed presence of police personnel who took over the premises.
He said-“Yes it is true we have posted our men to guard the assembly premises due to intelligence reports we received and we deemed it necessary to do that to prevent any occurrence”
Lawan Shiisu explained that he is not aware of any impeachment threat by members of the state assembly, “as per as im concerned we received intelligence reports that’s is all and nothing more nothing less”. He concluded.
According to Hotpen report, the Rt. Hon. Haruna Aliyu Dangyati emerged as Speaker of the 8th Jigawa State house of assembly on the 15th of June, 2023.
