Imam Shuaib Agaka Foundation’s Maiden Islamic Quiz Competition Ends, Winners Get Prizes

AREWA AGENDA – The Imam Abdulhameed Shuaib Agaka Foundation has presented awards and prizes to winners of its first ‘Islamic Quiz Competition’ among schools in the Ilorin Emirate of Kwara State.

The Imam Shuaib Agaka Islamic Quiz was instituted in memory of Dr. Abdulhameed Shuaib Agaka, a frontline Arabic and Islamic scholar in Kwara, who died after a brief illness on June 4, 2022, at the age of 77.

Coordinator of the quiz contest and National Muffassir of Ilorin Central Mosque, Dr. Muhammad Dasuki, said the programme included the recollection of the Holy Qur’an and Hadith knowledge, among 65 students from over 20 Islamic schools in Ilorin.

Dasuki, who is also a lecturer at the Department of Religion, History and Heritage Studies, Kwara State University, Malete, said pupils and students competed in different categories of Quranic recitation and Hadith recollection (sayings of the Prophet Muhammad SAW).

He pointed out that the quiz competition was organized for primary schools’ pupils, together with students of Junior and Senior Secondary Schools in Ilorin, where three outstanding students were given prizes and cash for emerging winners of the various categories.

The winners include AbdulGaffar Mawobe of katiby Eladabi School, Ilorin (Primary School), AbdurRahaman Abubakar of Imam Dasuki School (Junior Secondary School) and Mubarak Uthman of Darul-Ulum School of Arabic and Islamic Studies (Senior Secondary School)

The Daudu Agaka, an Ilorin traditional title holder, Alhaji Hanafi Omotosho Kawu, commended the children of Imam Shuaib Agaka for honouring their father, and admonished Muslims to remember their deceased through prayers and good deeds on their behalf.

He said he was highly impressed with the organization of the quiz competition and urged others to emulate the gesture.

“I strongly recommend this type of memorial programme as a charitable way to immortalise our leaders and parents who have passed away. While I commend the family of the late Imam Abdulhameed Shuaib Agaka for hosting and funding this event, I urge our people to emulate this by inviting friends and well-wishers to contribute to such noble efforts that are beneficial to society.”

On his part, the publisher of PRNigeria, Mallam Yushau Shuaib, who is the eldest son of the late Dr. Agaka, explained that the programme was sponsored by the Imam Abdulhameed Shuaib Agaka Foundation, which was established over a decade ago.

Shuaib, who was represented by his brother, Malam Aliyu Shuaib, said the annual Islamic quiz competition will be sustained.

He described their late father as a selfless individual who dedicated his life to the service of Islam and humanity.

The overall winner at the competition, Malam Mubarak Usman from Darul-Ulum School of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Ilorin, enjoined youths to dedicate their lives to memorizing the Holy Qur’an and seeking knowledge.
