ICPC Didn’t Raid NAHCON Office Over Investigation of Personnel – Factcheck

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has clarified that its recent visit to the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) office was not a raid, but rather a standard operational visit.

According to ICPC spokesperson Demola Bakare who spoke to PRNigeria Factcheck Desk said the visit was related to an ongoing investigation involving some NAHCON officials who had failed to honor previous invitations. https://prnigeria.com/2024/08/10/icpc-raid-nahcon-office/

According to him, the officials were released on bail and will assist with the investigation.

NAHCON spokesperson Fatima Sanda Usara also confirmed to PRNigeria that the ICPC visit was not a raid, but rather a meeting with officials regarding an ongoing case.

Contrary to reports, the visit was not related to the N90 billion Hajj subsidy funds, which is being handled by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The EFCC had previously invited NAHCON Chairman Arabi to explain the commission’s use of the N90 billion subsidy provided for the 2024 Hajj exercise.

Arabi had stated that the N90 billion approved by President Bola Tinubu was used to subsidize the fares of pilgrims and other pilgrimage logistics, with each pilgrim receiving a support except for those under the Hajj Savings Scheme who enjoyed more.

PRNigeria’s findings conclude that claims of an ICPC raid on NAHCON over mismanagement of N90 billion intervention funds are false.
