Heavy Downpour: Plateau Communities Cut off from Accessing State

Yesterday in the morning our attention was drawn to the sad news that the road linking the above five electoral wards (Munbutbo, Kantana, Dugub, Gagdi and Kanam) to Dengi was cut off around Dal Marke and Mun Kano following heavy rainfall on Thursday night of 8th July 2021.
No vehicles from this axis moved to Dengi market yesterday. Only motorcycles were the means of transportation of persons and few goods. The situation was quite disturbing and frustrating.
In the evening around 5pm we decided to Visit the areas affected to see for ourselves the level of destruction and possible way out. It was another rainfall again thereby further aggravating the situation. However we managed and reached to the two scenes of the incidents as could be seen in the three videos attached.
As part of the immediate measures, we will be meeting today at the sites of the incidents with some members of the immediate communities affected by the cut off and volunteers who repairs the road to provide temporary solution to the situation. We are therefore appealing to concerned individuals to support us with diggers and shovels as we move to the site this morning.

To our government at various levels, LGA, State and the Federal, please we are requesting for your magnanimity to please come over and help these communities. Our specific appeal to the Governor of Plateau State who awarded contract for the construction of the road some four years ago. The activities of the contractors on the road are responsible for exposing the road to excessive and negative effects of rainfall on the road. In the case of Dal Marke, there was a bridge which was destroyed by the contractor for the purpose of constructing new one which was not done, hence the calamity befalling the immediate communities. We are appealing that the contractor be mobilized to go to back to site and continue with the project.

Kwalmiya
Hakimi
Gagdi

Wawus
Takyirok
Maje
Furyam Dutse
Dogonruwa
Kunsagal
Zalli
The road was specifically cut off at Dal Marke and Mun Kano. The road links the above communities to Dengi the headquarters of Kanam LGA. The neighboring communities of Tabawabalewa and Alkaleri coming for Dengi Friday market were also cut off
Please our government across the three levels should come to the rescue of these large communities!
