Hasken Matasa: Youths Call for Inclusive Governance, Cooperation to Tackle Gender Violence
AREWA AGENDA – Understanding the concept, cooperation, social media activism, door-to-door campaign, peer group education and engagement of religious leaders are some of the tools required by Non-governmental Organisations (NGOs) and youth to tackle Gender Based Violence (GBV).
Some youth made this submission on the weekly radio programme ‘Hasken Matasa’ which discussed “Importance of Youth and NGOs Initiatives against Gender-Based Violence (GBV)” to contribute to the international 16 Days activism against GBV.
Malam Buhari Muhammad, a guest on the show told listeners that GBV is not restricted to rape or other sexual violations, and males too could fall victim.
“The act or threat of physical violation, harassment, intimidation or other threatening disruptive behaviour that occur in the society, market, businesses organisations, workplace religious organisations among other institution can all be seen as GBV as this is not limited to sexual harresment or genital mutilation.
“Though women are often victims of GBV, it should be known that men also suffer from same.

“Youths are the backbone of every society so, if they are well informed of the issues circling around GBV, they can give all it takes to bring the situation under control.
“I want to call on NGOs to take the campaign against Gender Based Violence as a Cooperate Social Responsibility (CSR) and also engage religious leaders in their sensitisation programme” Aisha Advised.
